Description
This shows a close-up view of the three sets of block divisions described above. It would have been the responsibility of an on-site foreman to find the right blocks for these spaces, cut them down as necessary, and add in new ones where they were needed. In practice, most large monuments are a patchwork of blocks, the divisions between which are obscured by the detailed carving which goes across them. The level of detail of work on the man's foot which runs seamlessly between two blocks shows that this was completed only once these blocks had been fixed in place.
