Notes

Flavius Palmatus was an important Late Roman official at Aphrodisias when the city became the capital of the province of Caria. He sports the latest fashionable hairstyle and the distinctive late form of the toga. The very obvious support under his left arm is a feature that is usually disguised in earlier portrait statuary.
