Description
This carver is using a very short point chisel, held extremely delicately, to roughly shape this relief. The same tool will then be used for finishing it.

Notes

Like other carvers in Mahabalipuram this one is working on a relief sitting down. This is a quite different way of working compared to how carving is done in Europe. A pile of point chisels can be seen at the carver's feet because this granite is very hard and the tools used on it need to be regularly changed and sharpened.
